Mount Source (Tooltip)

See what mount a player is riding and where it comes from right in the tooltip.
Updated for Midnight. Lightweight, zero UI frames, works with popular tooltip mods.

What it shows

• Mount name (from the Mount Journal)

• Source (vendor / location / cost, achievement, drop, shop, Trading Post, etc.)  color-coded by source type

• Ownership status: You own this mount / You do not own this mount

Where it appears

• Unit tooltips when you hover a mounted player

• Aura tooltips when you hover a mounted player’s mount buff (their buffs, not yours)

Commands

• /mountsource on — enable

• /mountsource off — disable

• /mstest — show a self tooltip at the cursor (for layout testing; mount lines are still hidden on self

Installation

1. Unzip into: _retail_/Interface/AddOns/

2. The folder should be:
   Interface/AddOns/**MountSourceTooltip**/

3. Ensure “Load out of date AddOns” is checked if your Interface number lags.

Troubleshooting

• Nothing shows? Make sure the target is actually mounted (not in a vehicle/shapeshift).

• No addon listed? Folder name must exactly match the .toc: MountSourceTooltip.

• Interface out of date? Update the ## Interface: in the .toc or enable “Load out of date AddOns”.

• Still stuck? Disable other tooltip addons briefly to test, or run /console scriptErrors 1 and /reload to surface errors.

Notes & Privacy

• Reads only in-game mount data; collects nothing; no external connections.

• Localization: English strings only for now (source lines come from Blizzard’s localized journal text).
