TriviaBot: Classic Era & Anniversary Revival (v2.9.3)

TriviaBot is a classic World of Warcraft addon that allows you to host interactive quiz games for other players in chat. It is the perfect pastime for livening up a "dead" guild chat, entertaining your party while waiting for a dungeon to form, or hanging out in battlegrounds.

This version is a complete, under-the-hood modernization of the legacy 2007 codebase, specifically rebuilt to run cleanly on the modern WoW API (TBC Anniversary, Classic Era, and beyond).

While this is built for TBC Anniversary / Classic Era, it may work on other versions. If you encounter an error on a different version, please post a comment with the specific LUA error, and I will see if I can implement a cross-version fix.

✨ What's New in v2.9.3

• Wider, Cleaner UI: The control panel has been expanded to 400px and perfectly aligned into a clean 3-column layout. No more overlapping buttons!
• Interactive Tooltips: Hovering over any checkbox or input field now displays a detailed explanation of what that setting does.
• The "Metronome" Chat Fix: Modern WoW servers scramble messages if you send too many at once. We've implemented a 0.1-second internal metronome so your Quiz Lists and Match Standings will always print in perfect, sequential order.
• Data Crash Fix: Rebuilt the question-handling logic to bypass modern Lua memory limits, permanently fixing the "bad argument to pairs" crash when loading large quizzes.

⚙️ Core Engine Features

• Crash Prevention: Completely replaced the legacy background timers. The addon no longer causes "Error #132" Hard Client Crashes during long sessions.
• True Randomization: Rebuilt the randomizer logic using a Fisher-Yates shuffle. The game actually shuffles properly now without clumping or repeating questions unfairly.
• Anti-Taint Compliance: The modern Blizzard API strictly blocks automated bots from posting to public channels (Say/General). To prevent your action bars from locking up (UI Taint), TriviaBot is safely restricted to local group chats: Party, Guild, Raid, and Battleground.

📚 Streamlined Quiz Bundles

In this version, we have removed the clutter of 10+ individual addon folders. Instead, we have consolidated those quizzes into thematic bundles. By using the new Category dropdown in the GUI, you can now host specific sub-topics from within a single loaded pack!

• World of Warcraft Mastery (200q): Our most comprehensive Warcraft set. (Categories: Azeroth Geography, Vanilla & TBC Lore, Vanilla Dungeons/Raids, TBC Dungeons/Raids)
• Pop Culture Decades (100q): Everything from the original WoW launch era to the modern day. (Categories: 1990-2010 Culture, 2010-Current Culture)
• General Knowledge & Hobbies (150q): A massive mix of real-world trivia. (Categories: US History, Sports & Golf, Culinary & BBQ)
• TBC Social Climate (100q): Our signature standalone pack focusing on the community, memes, and notorious player behavior of the original Burning Crusade era.

🛠️ How to Use & Create Custom Quizzes

• Type /triviabot or /trivia to bring up the newly expanded control panel.
• Use the dropdown menus to select your Question List and Category.
• /trivia help will list other commands in your chat box.
• !tb help whispered to a game host will list whisper commands for players.

I will help with any issues the best I can, but I do not claim to be anything close to a professional developer or coder! This was a morning coffee AI project just for myself that ended up turning into all of this somehow. Glad to have it working again though, as it was one of my favorites way back when.

I have recently consolidated the individual quiz packs to make the addon much cleaner to manage. I also included the new templates folder so you can easily make your own memory-safe question packs without breaking the game.
