vNotePad was born out of a genuine frustration with the current state of World of Warcraft note-taking tools. For years, the only available addons have been abandonware—clunky, aesthetically outdated, and weighed down by bloated scripts. I set out to build a modern alternative from scratch, anchored entirely by three core pillars:

🔌 Compatibility & Addon Support

vNotePad is completely standalone and requires no dependencies to function perfectly. However, it natively hooks into LibSharedMedia-3.0. If you use popular UI overhauls (like ElvUI, Tukui, Plater, or WeakAuras), vNotePad will automatically detect and import your entire custom font library into its own dropdown menu.

Type /vnp or /vnotepad in-game to view the help manual at any time. Type /vnp restore to instantly recover your last deleted tab or folder. Type /vnp reset to safely snap the notepad back to the center of your screen if you ever lose it off-monitor.

Q: Where are my notes saved? Are they shared between characters?

A: Your notes, folders, and window settings are saved globally across your entire account. If you log into an alt, all of your notes will be right where you left them.

Q: How do I safely delete a tab or folder?

A: Use Ctrl + Right-Click on any tab or folder to delete it. Don't worry about accidental clicks—deleted items are instantly sent to the soft-delete Trash Bin. You can view and restore recently deleted items by clicking the Trash icon in the header, or by Middle-Clicking it for a quick restore.

Q: If I make a typo or accidentally delete a large chunk of text, is my data gone forever?

A: Your data is protected by a zero-allocation ring buffer history system. Click the < and > arrows in the header to Undo or Redo your latest mistakes. It safely caches up to 50 structural states across all tabs without generating memory clutter or triggering garbage collection stutters.

Q: Is there a way to quickly hide the notepad without resetting its position?

A: Yes! Simply Right-Click anywhere on the top header (without holding any modifiers) to instantly collapse the window down to just the title bar. Right-click it again to smoothly expand it back to its original size.

Q: I have a massive note containing tens of thousands of characters. Will pasting it into the addon cause a lag spike?

A: Yes. Pasting massive amounts of text all at once will cause a brief game stutter while the interface calculates the word wrapping. This happens because World of Warcraft forces all UI elements to run through a single CPU thread. However, normal daily usage, manual typing, scrolling, and editing utilize heavily optimized local libraries and remain completely lag-free. The addon supports up to 50,000 characters per tab.

Q: How does the "Paste to Chat" feature actually work?

A: Instead of alt-tabbing or copying text manually, simply Middle-Click any of your tabs. The addon will intelligently read the text and spool it into chat based on your active window:

1. Active Chat: If you have your chatbox open and are whispering someone or talking in a channel, it pastes directly into that specific target.

2. Auto-Detect: If your chatbox is closed, vNotePad automatically detects your group status and defaults to your Raid or Party channel.

Q: Will pasting a massive strategy guide disconnect me for spamming?

A: The addon features a built-in safety throttle. If you are pasting a large note (over 800 characters) into a private channel (Party, Raid, Whisper), a Paste Manager prompt will appear to ask for confirmation. Once confirmed, it perfectly paces the output by sending one line every 0.15 seconds. Note: Public channels (Say, Yell) are restricted to 4 lines maximum to prevent server disconnects.
