Vault of Alts

Vault of Alts is a lightweight World of Warcraft Retail addon that adds saved bag, bank, alt, and warband item totals to item tooltips.

Tested and packaged for the current Retail 12.0.5 client line.

What the addon does

• Scans the current character's bags.
• Scans the current character's bank when the bank is opened.
• Scans warband bank tabs when available from the bank interface.
• Saves item totals per character.
• Adds tooltip lines showing where the hovered item is stored on your current character and saved alts, with separate bag and bank counts when available.
• Supports lightweight slash-command configuration for tooltip display.
• Includes search, cleanup, and forget tools for saved data management.

How syncing works

Vault of Alts does not live-sync characters that are offline. It uses saved scans.

To populate data, log into each alt at least once with the addon enabled. To include that character's bank items, open that character's bank at least once. After that, those saved totals can appear on other characters' item tooltips.

Vault of Alts shows saved scan data, not real-time cross-character inventory.

Installation

1. Download and extract the addon.
2. Place the VaultOfAlts folder in your World of Warcraft Retail Interface/AddOns folder.
3. Restart WoW or run /reload.
4. Enable Vault of Alts from the AddOns list.

How to populate alt data

1. Log into a character.
2. Open that character's bank once.
3. Repeat on each alt you want tracked.
4. Open warband bank when available if you want warband totals saved.
5. Return to your main character and hover an item to see saved totals.

Tooltip options

Vault of Alts now shows separate bag and bank counts in the tooltip by default, so you can tell where the hovered item is stored at a glance. You can still adjust the tooltip with slash commands.

• Show or hide warband totals
• Show or hide individual alt lines
• Show or hide realm names
• Sort alts alphabetically or by count
• Optional freshness lines
• Optional merged mode if you prefer fewer storage-location lines

Known limitations

• Offline characters are not scanned in real time.
• Bank totals only update after opening that character's bank.
• Warband bank totals only update when the relevant bank containers are available to the client.
• Counts are based on item IDs and saved inventory scans.
• Item search depends on item names being available from the client item cache.

Troubleshooting

• If an alt does not appear, log into that alt once with the addon enabled.
• If bank counts are missing, open that character's bank once.
• If an alt only shows bag counts, that alt's bank has not been scanned yet.
• If /voa search behaves oddly after a fresh patch, hover the item once or relog so the client can warm its item cache.
• Use /voa status to see tracked characters, last scan times, and whether bank data has been saved.
• Use /voa rescan if counts look stale on the current character.
• Use /voa search <item name> to see where a saved item exists.
• Use /voa cleanup and /voa forget carefully to prune saved data.
• Use /voa debug only while troubleshooting.

Future ideas

• Optional import tools for renamed or migrated saved data.
• Optional tooltip refinements based on user feedback.
• Additional low-noise diagnostics for tricky bank-sync cases.
