CrestAdvisor – Midnight Season 1 Upgrade Advisor

CrestAdvisor takes the guesswork out of gearing in World of Warcraft: Midnight. Instead of manually tracking upgrade tracks, crest costs, and high-watermark values across 16 gear slots, CrestAdvisor scans your equipped gear and bags in one click and tells you exactly what to upgrade, in what order, and what it will cost.

What It Does

The addon reads your character's high-watermark data — the hidden ilvl ceiling the game uses to determine free upgrades — and cross-references it against every piece of gear you have equipped or in your bags. It then categorizes each item into a clear, color-coded recommendation:

• 🟢 Free Upgrade — Your watermark already covers the next rank. Upgrade at zero crest cost.
• 🟡 Save Crests — You should max this item before replacing it. Doing so pushes your watermark to the track's ceiling, making the first upgrade rank on any future item in that slot free — saving you 20 crests of the next tier.
• 🟠 Needs Crests (Have Enough) — Crests are required and you have enough to upgrade now.
• 🔴 Needs Crests (Short) — Crests are required but you are short. Shows exactly how many you need.
• ⚫ Maxed / Not Upgradeable — Item is fully upgraded or not on a crest track.

Features

• Scans all 16 equipped gear slots simultaneously
• Scans your bags and identifies upgradeable gear waiting to be equipped, with a direct comparison to what you currently have in that slot
• Detects and skips crafted items (Radiance Crafted, etc.) that use the Artisan system instead of crests
• Displays upgrade track, current rank, item level, and watermark for every slot at a glance
• Shows your full Dawncrest inventory (Adventurer through Myth) in the footer at all times
• Hover any row for a detailed strategic recommendation tooltip
• Draggable minimap button with saved position
• Window position is saved between sessions
• Auto-refreshes on equipment changes, bag updates, and zone transitions
• Slash commands: /ca to toggle, /ca refresh to force rescan

Why the Save Crests Tip Matters

Every upgrade track in Midnight Season 1 overlaps at its boundary — Veteran rank 6 and Champion rank 1 are the same item level. If you max a Veteran item to rank 6 before replacing it, your watermark for that slot reaches 250. When you later equip a Champion piece, rank 1 to rank 2 costs zero Champion crests because your watermark already covers it. CrestAdvisor identifies every slot where this opportunity exists so you never waste a crest unnecessarily.

Installation

1. Download and unzip the file
2. Place the CrestAdvisor folder into your World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/ directory
3. Restart the game or reload your UI (/reload)
4. Type /ca to open the window

Compatibility

Built for World of Warcraft: Midnight (Interface version 120001, patch 12.0.1). Requires no libraries or dependencies. Uses only native Blizzard APIs.
